Antares Wells is a curator and writer specialising in photography. Fascinated by photography as a field at the intersection of art, history, science and technology, her curatorial and research interests span nineteenth-century photographic practices through to contemporary photography, film and installation. She also has a wider interest in artists working with archives, found objects and material culture.

Antares has over a decade of professional experience in the arts, including curatorial positions at the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles; Powerhouse Museum, Sydney; the University of St Andrews Museums & Libraries; and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, Sydney, where she is currently Assistant Curator. She has curated and assisted on a variety of exhibitions, including large-scale surveys, thematic exhibitions and collection displays, and has significant experience in collections management, development and teaching. A key focus of her work is fostering public engagement with exhibitions and collections.

Antares has written and spoken widely on photography, including at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London; Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles; University of California at Riverside; and Concordia University, Montréal. Artists she has interviewed as part of her curatorial practice include Laura Larson, Stephanie Syjuco, Alejandro Cartagena, Trevor Paglen, and Apichatpong Weerasethakul. As an editor and translator, she has worked with Bloomsbury Publishing, Yale University Press and Princeton University Press. She serves on juries for photographic prizes in Australia and internationally.
